<h3>Background and artist career</h3>Shi Lei was born on June 21, 1982, in Tianjin. In 2001, he was admitted to the Printmaking Department of the School of Plastic Arts at Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts. After graduating in 2005, he stayed on as a faculty member. In 2012, he was admitted to the graduate program in the Printmaking Department of Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts.男。中国。天津.。1982年6月21日生于天津。2001 年考入天津美术学院造型艺术分院版画系，2005 年毕业留校， 2012 年考入天津美术学院版画系研究生。<h3>Artistic statement</h3>Painting, as a form of expression, is the output and manifestation of personal emotions. The liberation of individuality raises the question of inclusivity toward individual differences—recognizing the distinct relationship between one's own temperament and natural occurrences is what sets a painting apart from others. When the senses are fully engaged, perceptual cognition drives creative expression in painting, while intellectual cognition transforms into artistic experience. After absorbing external impressions and acknowledging one's own capabilities, abstract concepts are employed to achieve a spiritualized expression. This allows personality to merge with nature, much like poetry that depicts natural forms while brimming with personal emotion and tension.绘画在表达时是自我情感的输出和表达。个体解放带来的问题是个体差异的包容性，认识自身性格与自然发生关系的不同才是有别于其他绘画表现的重点。当感官充分被调动后，感性认知对绘画进行创作表达的同时，知性的认知则变成绘画经验。接受外界印象和能力的认知后，借用抽象概念应用于精神化的表达。使性格融入于自然之中，就像诗歌描写自然体又极富个人情感和张力。

This is an Imperial Chinese Lioness in the grounds of the Forbidden Palace, Beijing, which was constructed in the 1300s.  Sometimes these are referred to as Foo Dogs and are in pairs.  This is the female or lioness, as it is playing with a cub, under it’s paw.  This represents nurture.  They are often made of granite or cast in bronze.  I was lucky enough to visit the Forbidden Palace, whilst speaking at an international leadership conference, being held in Beijing.
